More than 1000 dresses, hats, shoes and jackets from departed productions have to find a new owner at the Komische Oper before the house shuts down for renovations.

The costume department separates from wigs, costumes, dresses, skirts and much more.  Included are dance shoes from “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” for five euros, fantastically decorated hats from “spring storms” for 40 euros, rushing dance dresses from “Cendrillon” from 80 euros. On average the prices vary between one and 200 euros.

The most expensive piece is the costume of the tin man from the “Magician of Oz” for 600 euros, including oil can. Experts say that normally, such a costume costs between 5000 and 6000 euros in production.

Komische Oper’s costume director Katrin Kath-Bösel shares the opinion that it became clear in advance what costumes are mostly sought after. “It is often colleagues from smaller theaters who inquire. They can’t afford such elaborate things at all. An interested party wanted 40 baroque dresses” – the manager told B.Z.

The costume sale will take place this weekend, on the 16th and 17th. June, from 4 pm to 8 pm in the theater foyer at Behrensstr. 55-57,
