The campaign was launched on December 1 in the Radovish region, North Macedonia, the Kirovograd Region, Ukraine, and Izabal, Guatemala. School children with talent in music, theater, dance, applied arts or design who are currently aged 14 -17 are invited to apply for the opportunity to represent their countries at the 100th annual Salzburg Festival and take part in the “Intolleranza 1960” opera camp for children and youth. Since the beginning of the month, more than 120 children from five regional schools have attended the program’s presentations where they listened to English teachers and 2019 program scholars sharing their personal experiences.

After meeting all of the application terms, up to 30 participants from each region will enter the first round of the Opera Camp challenge.  After completing four months of English-language training, the applicants will be asked to create presentations demonstrating their creative talent and explain to the jury why they are keen to participate in the camp in Salzburg. Judging on the quality of the presentation and commitment to the English-language studies, the jury will select six finalists (two from each country) who will showcase their talents in Salzburg.

In the 100th year of the Salzburg Festival, Solway Investment Group extended its partnership by switching from solely cooperating on the youth opera camps to supporting the festival’s significantly expanded youth program, jung&jede*r. The new program features over 80 music, drama and opera activities for the gifted youngsters and music-loving families, including opera camps, music academies, traveling theater productions and participatory projects for schools, a youth subscription ticketing program, a young conductors award and more.

The application deadline is January 15, 2020. For more details, please see: https://solwaygroup.com/musiccamp/application-guidelines/
