Not everyone is lucky enough to visit an opera house, even fewer get a chance to peak behind the scenes and have a look at how the theater works from the inside. Solway fellows were a part of those lucky ones who were given an honor to discover how the biggest Opera festival in Europe is run from behind the curtain. The unique backstage tour included visits to the Große Festspielhaus, the Felsenreitschule and the Haus für Mozart – all three venues that host performances daily during the festival. The scholars were amazed to know that the premises were historically used as barracks and a riding school for the cavalry and later were transformed into the theater halls. “Who would have thought that one can make a music stage out of the stables?” – questioned Monica while sharing her impressions.
