In the year of the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Festival, the Solway Music Camp Fellowship is opening more opportunities for candidates to reach the second round of the fellowship’s audition process.
To commemorate the 100th birthday of Europe’s largest summer opera festival, the organizers have decided to extend the fellowship program’s reach and invite all talented inhabitants of the Radovish (North Macedonia), El Estor (Guatemala) and Kirovogradky (Ukraine) regions aged 14 – 17 to apply for a scholarship.
As a result of this announcement, 55 candidates from Macedonia, Guatemala and Ukraine will begin their English language studies this week as the second important step on their path to stardom – a week-long trip to the international music camp for creative youth in Salzburg.
To qualify for the first round of the Fellowship’s audition process, children with talent in music, applicable art, theater or any other type of creative performance had to provide the Fellowship’s organizing committee with a 90-second video of themselves showcasing their creative skills.
According to the feedback provided by the organizers, the 2019 candidates have shown exceptional skills not only in choir singing, playing the harmonica, flute, trumpet and piano, but also in costume design, drawing, acrobatic football, rock-climbing and cooking.
All of the applicants who met the application guidelines were admitted as Fellowship candidates and were offered a place at the ZaZa School for virtual English language classes. The lessons will take place over Skype, three times per week, from January 2019 until May 2019. The program is tailored to help the finalists easily adapt in their solo trip abroad, and covers not only basic survival topics such as travelling, food, health, etc., but also a variety of music, theater and opera related subjects. During their English studies, Solway Fellowship candidates have the chance to interact with their fellow candidates from other countries to discuss the challenges and expectations of the program.
How the selection process works:
After completing this step of the audition process, the candidates are asked to record a 90-second video in English in which they introduce themselves, demonstrate their creative skills and communicate their expectations about the camp in English. The best six presenters (two from each country) will become the 2020 anniversary year fellows and will be invited to participate in the youth music camp in Salzburg free of charge.
To complete the second round of the audition process, participants are required to attend at least 80% of the online English classes each month and must show a high level of academic performance. An academic evaluation is performed on a monthly basis throughout the English course.
To qualify for the final round of the audition process, each candidate must provide the organizing committee with a new 90-second video in which they introduce themselves, demonstrate their creative skills and communicate their expectations about the camp in English.
The Salzburg Festival and the creative team of the youth music camps, together with the chairman of Solway Investment Group’s board of directors, will select the six finalists – two from each country. The lucky winners will become fellows and will be able to participate in the 2020 youth music camp in Salzburg this summer free of charge.
