Yves Saint Laurent was a French couturier, who worked in fashion industry since late 1950s, creator of his own haute couture house with Pierre Bergé in 1961. Saint Laurent was the most theatrical of XX century designers.
He dreamt of theatre and subsequently created numerous costumes of most diverse styles from ballet to cabaret. He was one of the few couturiers, who could comprehend the different scopes of a stage and a fashion runway.

In „Identities“ 7 dancers will bring to life a series of choreographed paintings. We will meet on the stage a swan dancer, amazing creatures with heels and captivating parades.

#operajobs - COSTUME DESIGNER: Part 1 - Profession

Although it’s the role of the designer to dream up the costumes, bringing them to life involves teamwork. Genuine collaboration takes place between the designer and the dressmaking workshop.

Costume Designer produces designs for all the costumes in the form of sketches and colour paintings.

Before production begins, the Designer chooses a selection of samples of the fabrics required to make them.

The Head of the Wardrobe Department then calculates the length of fabric needed for each costume. She first makes patterns according to the measurements of the artists and extras.

Next, she cuts the fabric and gives it to the dressmakers so they can start making the costumes. She does the first fitting, makes any alterations, and then does the second fitting.

When the costume is finished, it is decorated and embellished using fabric paint applied with a brush or gun. It can also be dyed to achieve certain effects. The dressmaking workshop is also responsible for ensuring harmony across the entire stage.

What's going on at the @Creative.fellowship?

50 talented teenagers from Ukraine, North Macedonia, and Guatemala are already attending the first part of the @CreativeFellowship Program 2022 - English classes!

In total, the fellows are offered 168 hours of English lessons taught as per TESOL methodology (Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages). Their purpose is to help students to communicate in the next stages of the program, as well as provide them with skills that could grant better chances for education and employment in the future.

Great news! Our partner, Salzburg Festival @salzburgerfestspiele has just announced its 2022 program for children and youth!

We are thrilled to be a part of this fascinating journey called Jung&Jede*r.

In the forthcoming year the program will feature:Opera Camps for music-loving children and teenagers aged 9 to 17; participatory school programs run in the months prior to the start of the Festival; three music theatre performances during the Festival time; morning open air screenings of opera, ballet and theatres suitable for the youngest audience.

Additionally the Jung&Jede*r plans for young talents and audience include:
